Regimental Beginning Reading List

Here are the books we assign to those starting our training course. There are also available writings by the Prince-Commander. They are chosen to give us a common starting point for getting to know each other and a similar understanding of the environment in which we exist. Our objective is to give Prospects and Recruits sufficient information to decide if they find this path rewarding enough to continue.

Paradigms of Power: Styles of Master/Slave Relationships
Edited by Raven Kaldera

This book is a survey of various types and models for M/s relationships. It is valuable to remind you that there are many right ways to do this and you should find the one that speaks to you. We have chosen the M/s Special Forces model (for reasons elaborated here) and part of this is to give you a survey of several other ways to see how well ours resonated with you. You can’t know if it is right if you have no ideas of what else is possible. Our way is right for us, but other ways are right too.

Living M/s
Dan and dawn Williams

Dan and dawn have a very down to earth and real style of both M/s and writing. This is a good introduction to give an idea of what life can be like in one style of M/s relationship. This is not our style exactly, but it can give you an idea.

Master/slave Mastery: Updated handbook of concepts, approaches, and practices
Dr. Robert Rubel

Dr. Bob has a much more formal style of both writing and relationship. This gives a contrasting view of M/s that is equally valid. It is a much denser read and is full of information. Also, not exactly our style.

Real Service
Joshua Tenpenny

This is a key work that describes much of how we feel about service. All of those in fealty to the Prince-Commander are there to serve. They are also there to benefit from guidance and growth, but service is core to the relationship. In our model service does go in both directions, and servant Leadership largely takes the form of developing followers maximally.

Dear Raven and Joshua: Questions and Answers About Master/Slave Relationships
Raven Kaldera & Joshua Tenpenny

This is a really cool, pretty long, set of Q&A that gives a Master’s view and a slave’s view of things. One of the things I like about it is that as loving as it is, it reminds you of what a slave’s role actually is. Only informed consent is really consent.

Extreme Ownership
Jocko Willink

This is a straight up business book based on military axioms. The biggest takeaways from it are simple, but the extended explanations are valuable.

  1. The Leader is responsible for all outcomes; and
  2. Discipline = Freedom

You have listed one of Robert Rubel’s (Dr. Bob) books. Rubel wrote a book better suited to this topic. In his Master/slave Mastery — Protocols — Refining the intent of your relationship he has an extensive step-by-step description of how to serve a high protocol leather dinner.
